John Terrafino is Mary's younger brother. He has been helping Mary out in the daycare since the beginning of the series.

Description[]

John has curly red hair and he is very loyal to his sister. John is the youngest member of the Town Council, representing the day care because Mary was too busy to take part in the council. John is now assumed to be the full-time care taker of the youngest children, because his sister Mary chose the "poof" over living in the FAYZ.

Appearances[]

Gone

John first appears when he and Mary take care of the kids left in the day care, and appears throughout the rest of the book doing miscellaneous things involved with the day care.

Hunger

John, living with Astrid, Sam, Mary and Little Pete, is still working for the day care. He once again does miscellaneous things for most of the book, such as observing the power going out, until he and Astrid find Mary unconscious and nearly dead from starvation, due to her anorexia. John ties Mary up and force-feeds her.

Lies

John is now a member of the Town Council, representing the day care. When Astrid suggests lying to deal with Orsay's prophecies, John and Edilio vote against it, not wanting to lie. However, they are outvoted by Astrid, Albert and Howard, and John reluctantly lies to Mary. When she presses him, he admits to lying to her, causing her to feel betrayed by him as he has never lied to her before. He tries to stop her from poofing and taking the prees with her, but fails.

Plague

John has left the Town Council, taking on the job as head of the day care following the poof of Mary. However, he goes to Lake Tramonto in the Big Split.

His fate after this is never revealed as he isn't mentioned again. However, Michael Grant confirmed he was alive on Twitter.

Notes[]

  • He is called "Brother John" by the "prees", to go with his sister's nickname of "Mother Mary."
  • John can skateboard.
  • Michael Grant has said that John is working at a surfer shop in Santa Barbara after the events of Light in a Tweet to a fan of the series.[1]
